1954
Yoneichi Onda, founder of Onyone, worked as a salesman in his parent’s drapery store.
He sold farmers cotton fabrics used to make working clothes. Yoneichi carried heavy fabrics across towns to visit customers.
His mantle would get wet on rainy days, which made him wonder if his work could be better. At that time, the first waterproof nylon raincoat was introduced in the market.
Impressed by this new technology, Yoneichi ordered that same fabric and started making raincoats in Nagaoka, our head office’s current location.
